Project Chrono Docker Image

Docker image providing a development and build environment for Project Chrono.

The image is based on Ubuntu 26.04 and builds Project Chrono from source with:

• Irrlicht
• Vehicle
• VSG
• Demos
• Benchmarking
• Testing

VSG is built and installed under /opt/vsg.

Building

From the repository root:

docker build \
    -f docker/build/Dockerfile \
    -t projectchrono:latest \
    .

Running

Start an interactive shell:

docker run --rm -it projectchrono:latest

The Chrono source and build are located at:

/projectchrono
/projectchrono/build

For example, to run a Chrono demo:

docker run --rm -it \
    projectchrono:latest \
    /projectchrono/build/bin/demo_CH_EulerAngles

Configuration

The following Docker build arguments can be overridden:

Argument	Default
CHRONO_SOURCE_DIR	/projectchrono
CHRONO_BUILD_DIR	/projectchrono/build
CHRONO_INSTALL_DIR	/opt/chrono
VSG_INSTALL_DIR	/opt/vsg

The Chrono build uses the RelWithDebInfo configuration.

Notes

Project Chrono is cloned from its GitHub repository during the image build. For reproducible builds, consider pinning the Chrono repository to a specific release or commit.

The image is intended primarily as a development/build environment, rather than a minimal runtime image.
